Market And Sector Dynamics
Stocks opened the trading session mixed, with the Dow down 53 points, Nasdaq up 13 points, and the S&P rose 3 points. Today, investors are mostly cautious, ahead of tariff deadlines, set by the Trump Administration, to go into effect on December 15th. At this point, it's anybody's guess if those tariffs will be levied.
Less uncertain, is the outcome of the Fed/FOMC policy meeting, the results of which will be announced this afternoon. No interest rates action is expected, and the markets are very subdued, and no surprise is expected.
Stock did manage to rally modestly, late in the afternoon session, and held on to slim gains at the close.
Despite the rather subdued session, market tone was fairly positive, with eight of the eleven S&P sectors closing the day with modest gains, led by Technology, Basic Materials, Industrials, Utilities, Communication Services, and Consumer Discretionary.
