Stocks futures are modestly higher this morning, with Dow futures up 79 points, Nasdaq futures up 29 points, and S&P futures up 8 points. Asian market ended mixed.

What About The Asian And European Markets?

Major Asian markets mostly mixed. Japan (Nikkei 225) down 0.03%, Shanghai down 0.58%, Hong Kong (Hang Seng) up 0.36%.

Major European markets closed higher. German (DAX) up 0.79%, France CAC 40 up 0.83%, London FTSE 100 up 0.65%.

Market And Sector Dynamics

Stocks opened modestly higher this morning. The Dow gained 78 points, Nasdaq gained 9 points, and the S&P added 5 point. WTI crude oil got off to a positive start at $70.44/barrel, up 0.21%, and the US 10 Year Bond was at 1.45%, down 0.9 basis points.


After a promising start, the Dow quickly turned lower, an hour into the session, and remained lower for most of the session, before returning to positive territory just at the close of the session. At the high the down was up 140 points shortly after the open. The intraday low was 135 points.


Eight of the ten S&P sectors closed today's session with gains, led by Financials, Technology, Consumer Discretionary, Basic Materials, Utilities, Industrials, Consumer Staples, and Communication Services. Healthcare, Real Estate, and Energy, ended with modest losses.


Factors Influencing Today's Market

  • Asian markets were mixed, but European markets ended higher.

  • US 10 Year Bond Yield closed today at 1.454%, up 1.16%.

  • WTI crude oil closed at $70.91/barrel, up 0.88%.

  • This week's Baker Hughes US Oil Rig count rose 6 rigs to 365 total.

Markets ended modestly higher in today's trading. The Dow gained 13.36 points, Nasdaq gained 49.09 points, and the S&P gained 8.26 points. Total NYSE volume traded, a light 3.86 billion shares. Advancing shares outpaced Declining shares nearly 2:1.
