Market And Sector Dynamics
Markets started the day lower. The Dow lost 65 points, Nasdaq lost 14 points, and the S&P lost 16 points. WTI crude oil started lower at $52.75/barrel, down 1.51%, and the US 10 Year Bond held at 1.099%.
Markets traded lower for the entire trading session. Stocks hit the low of the day about an hour after the open, with the Dow down 380 points, the intraday low. Stocks rebounded sharply off the low, climbing back towards the flat line, during the rest of the session, before losing some momentum just before the close of trading.
The selloff was moderate, with seven of the eleven S&P sectors ending with losses, led by Energy, Financials, Basic Materials, Industrials, Technology, Consumer Discretionary, Consumer Staples. Real Estate, Utilities, Healthcare, and Communication Services ended with gains.
Factors Influencing Today's Market
Asian markets ended mixed, while European markets ended lower.
US 10 Year Bond closed at 1.087%, down 3.75%.
WTI crude oil closed at $53.80/barrel, down 2.26%.
This week's Baker Hughes US Oil Rig count rose 12 to 287 total.
Market Close Volume Traded And Advance Decline Ratio
Stocks ended the session solidly lower. The Dow lost 177.26 points, Nasdaq lost 114.14 points, and S&P lost 2729 points. Total NYSE volume trade, moderate 5.38 billion shares. Declining shares outpaced Advancing shares slightly better than 2:1.
