Stock index futures were lower in the premarket, with Dow futures down 122 points, Nasdaq futures down 32 points, and S&P futures down 14 points. Asian markets were mostly lower in their sessions. Investors are anticipating a very busy week of earnings.

What About The Asian And European Markets?

Major Asian markets ended mixed. Japan (Nikkei 225) down 0.15%, Shanghai down 0.12%, Hong Kong (Hang Seng) up 0.31%.

Major European markets traded lower today. German (DAX) fell 0.72%, France CAC 40 down 0.81%, London FTSE 100 down 0.42%.

Market And Sector Dynamics

Stocks opened the trading day lower. The Dow lost 159 points, Nasdaq lost 62 points, and the S&P lost 19 points, to kick off the new trading week.

The Dow alternated between positive and negative territory during the session, while the Nasdaq and S&P outperformed, despite opening lower as well. Solid earnings from the big banks last week, remains a positive sentiment for markets.

Market bias was mostly positive. Six of the eleven S&P sectors ended the session with gains, led by Consumer Discretionary, Technology, Communication Services, Real Estate, Energy, Industrials, and Financials. Utilities, Healthcare, Consumer Staples, and Basic Materials.



Factors Influencing Today's Market

  • US 10 Year Bond Yield closed 1.591%, up 012%.

  • WTI crude oil price closed at $82.44/barrel, up 0.19%.

  • Asian stocks ended mixed and European market ended lower.

Market Close Volume Traded And Advance Decline Ratio

When trading ended for the day, the Dow lost 36.15 points, Nasdaq gained 124.47 points, and the S&P up 15.09 points. Total NYSE volume traded, a light 3.71 billion shares. Declining shares outpaced Advancing shares by 1.06:1.
