Stock futures are modestly higher with the Dow up 61 points, Nasdaq up 55 points, and the S&P up 9 points. Asian markets closed mixed in their session. Asian markets ended their session mixed, overnight. Today is the first full day of the Biden Administration, and they are off to a running start.

Major Asian markets ended mixed. Japan (Nikkei 225) up 0.82%, Shanghai up 1.07%, Hong Kong (Hang Seng) down 0.12%
Major European markets. German (DAX) down 0.11%, France CAC 40 down 0.67%, London FTSE 100 down 0.37%
Market And Sector Dynamics
US markets opened modestly in positive territory, with the Dow gained 36 points, Nasdaq rose 54 points, and the S&P added 5 points. WTI crude oil started off slightly lower at $53.08/barrel, down 0.43%, while the US 19 Year Bond hovered at 1.107%.
The market went negative half an hour after the open, but returned to positive territory half an hour later, with the Dow up 150 points, at the high of the day. One hour later, the Dow was down 66 points, the low of the day.
Stocks rallied back to positive territory remaining modestly higher during the rest of the afternoon session, until just before the close, when the Dow slipped back below the flat line.
In today's mild selloff eight of the eleven S&P sectors closed the day lower, led by Energy, Basic Materials, Financials, Industrials, Utilities, Healthcare, Consumer Staples, and Real Estate. Technology, Consumer Discretionary, and Communication Services finished higher.
Factors Influencing Today's Market
This week's Initial Jobless Claims report shows another 900K filed new claims for new unemployment benefits, and less than the 926K estimates
US 10 Year Bond ended the day at 1.109%, up 3.01%.
WTI crude oil closed today at $53.03/barrel, up to 0.13%.
Asian markets ended the day mixed, and European markets ended lower.
Market Close Volume Traded And Advance Decline Ratio
When the markets ended today, stocks were mixed. The Dow fell 12.37 points, Nasdaq gained 73.67 points, and the S&P up 1.22 points. Total NYSE volume traded, a moderate 4.49 billion shares. Declining shares outpaced Advancing shares by 1.57:1.
