What About The Asian And European Markets?

Major Asian markets ended higher. Japan (Nikkei 225) gained 0.52%, Shanghai up 0.78%, Hong Kong (Hang Seng) up 0.67%.


Major European markets were also higher. German (DAX) up 0.66%, France CAC 40 up 0.32%, London FTSE 100 up 0.80%.

Market And Sector Dynamics

Markets opened the trading session mixed, with the Dow down 27 points, Nasdaq up 64 points, and the S&P up 4 points. WTI crude oil started the day off at $64.07/barrel, down 2.02%, and the US 10 Year Bond down 1.4 basis points, at 1.593%.


Markets traded below the flat line, and remained volatile for the entire session. At the low of the day, the Dow fell 171 points. Stocks headed lower after the 10 Year Bond ticked higher early in the session, halting the rise in some growth stocks.


Seven of the eleven S&P sectors ended in negative territory today, led by Energy, Industrials, Financials, Basic Materials, Consumer Discretionary, Healthcare, and Real Estate. Communication Services, Technology, Utilities, and Consumer Staples ended with gains.


Factors Influencing Today's Market

  • US 10 Year Bond closed today at 1.621%, up 0.88%, sending the market lower.

  • Asian markets ended the session with gains.

  • WTI crude oil closed at $64.89/barrel, down 0.76%.

  • February Retail Sales fell -3.0% vs -5.0% expected.

Stocks ended mixed on Wall Street today. The Dow down 127.51 points, Nasdaq gained 11.86 points, and S&P down 6.23 points. Total NYSE volume traded a moderate 4.67 billion shares. Declining shares outpaced Advancing shares by 2:1.
